Job description

The Persian Service offers a service of video/audio/text across a range of media which includes TV, Radio and Online. The service is multi-media in operation for daily newsgathering as well as weekly and long-term planning. Output streams are run by single media teams and teams working in collaboration with each other and sometimes by multimedia teams. Persian Radio and Online are a 7 days a week operation. The TV service broadcasts for 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. Working as part of a team of journalists in a multi-media environment, Presenters/Producers should be able to work as news journalists, interactive producers, presenters and reporters. They are line managed by Multimedia Editor of the interactive team. Working in a multi-media environment, Presenters/Producers may specialise in TV. They may also be required to serve a variety of output according to branding of programmes, skills and operational requirements.

Role Responsibility

· To present or co-present news, interactive or long-form output.
· To conduct interviews, live 2-ways.
· To take a broad perspective on issues, assessing and explaining in clear and interesting ways the impact of developments and issues in a given subject area.
· To monitor news sources and social media platforms with the aim of analysing and reporting social media reactions to on-going issues and news developments.
· Make complex issues accessible to audiences.
· To travel inside and outside the UK on short reporting or field producing trips and assignments and to spend longer periods of time in the target area.
· To research, produce and present pre-recorded packages or live reports. To undertake interviewing and reporting duties, under broad direction in both recorded and live situations, in studio or on location, for Radio, Television and Online.
· To appear as interviewees and as experts in a given area.
· To research, write, translate, edit or adapt items, stories or programme material. To find contributors and interviewees as well as other sources of material and/or actuality as appropriate and to the required specification.
· To undertake variety of editorial tasks in accordance to team rota in preparation, production and presentation of live and pre-recorded programmes or programmes segments.
· To moderate online and broadcasting debates. To create and moderate debates and material on BBC forums and social media platforms. To engage with audience on BBC branded social media platforms under broad direction and in accordance with BBC Editorial Guidelines and social networking policies.
· To contribute to originating and commissioning stories, and generate ideas for stories and features.
· To carry out in-depth research to a broad brief, with minimal supervision across the whole range of multiplatform output.
· To meet strategic and specific objectives, set for the individual, the team, and the department, aimed at developing and improving the quality of BBC Persian’s journalism.
· To collaborate effectively and be deployed flexibly across other BBC outlets, on stories and items, sharing information, serving other platforms.
· To be aware of and to follow BBC policy and guidelines, particularly those concerning political coverage. (BBC’s Editorial guidelines).
· To operate the technical equipment necessary in fulfilling the role.
· To work in London, across UK and when required on location around the World.
· To observe BBC policy on Health and Safety and Security.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have a good broadcasting voice and on-screen presence is essential.  You will have fluency in both written and spoken Persian (as first language) and the ability to communicate effectively in English. You will have a strong editorial judgement based on extensive journalism experience. . You will have a thorough understanding of interactive platforms and social media environment and emerging trends. You will have experience of live broadcasting on radio and television. · Ability to interpret complex stories for a non-specialist audience. You will have an ability to gain a good knowledge of the main production methods and technology used by BBC Persian. You will have the ability to work to tight deadlines, often under pressure. You will have knowledge of the law as it applies to journalism and communications.  You will have the ability to work within financial constraints. You will have good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload and work flexibly.  You will have the ability to work cooperatively as part of a small or large team. You will have a good awareness of the whole range of BBC Persian outlets.
