BBC Monitoring offers open source monitoring of TV, radio, web and print media around the world. It is an important part of the BBC's newsgathering operation and provides content for BBC output. Role Responsibility

As a Monitoring Journalist, you’ll play a pivotal role in meeting the needs of BBC Monitoring’s users by identifying news and key insights from TV, radio, newspapers and social media in Russia. You will produce engaging content in English on a range of different platforms.

You will use a variety of tools and techniques to mine the media for story ideas. You will identify emerging trends and narratives and contribute to advance planning of key events.

You will ensure that the quality of your output is legally sound and conforms to BBC editorial standards.

You will work within a shift pattern, involving some evening and weekend hours.

The Ideal Candidate

You have some experience as a journalist, excellent writing, editing and translation skills and are able to identify material that makes a “high impact” story of interest to BBC Monitoring’s users. You have a thorough understanding of the Russian media environment and a good knowledge of regional political, security, and socioeconomic factors.

You are willing and able to embrace new ways of working and new technology, and are constantly looking for ways to innovate.

You will be working closely with colleagues in the UK and Moscow so good team-working skills are essential.

It is vital that you have a through knowledge of the Russian language, ideally fluent, as well as excellent written and spoken English.
