Job description

We’re recruiting a recently qualified Lawyer to join our Litigation team. This is a twelve month post based in London.  The Litigation lawyers work closely with programme makers and others within the BBC Group to provide comprehensive advice relating to media disputes (including defamation, privacy, reporting restrictions, contempt and PACE applications), commercial disputes, judicial review and other regulatory disputes.

The BBC Legal Division is responsible for developing and implementing the BBC's legal strategy and for providing legal advice to the BBC.  The Division is made up of the following departments: General Counsel's Office, IP Legal, Editorial Legal Group (comprising Litigation and Programme Legal Advice), Employment, Workplace and Information Rights, and Commercial Legal.

Role Responsibility

As a Litigation lawyer, you will provide advice on contentious matters at all levels across the BBC Group, assist in defending disputes in the High Court, County Court and other tribunal proceedings, and work effectively with other team members within the Litigation Department and the wider legal team to provide a first class legal service.

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role, you will possess experience and knowledge of commercial or media litigation and civil court procedure. Excellent written and oral communication skills and experience of advising clients directly and in urgent circumstances are essential.

You will have qualified as a solicitor or barrister in a leading law firm or chambers, or be a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (FCILEx), with a strong academic background. You will also have an ability to understand the varied needs of clients across the BBC and to advise and communicate with them on legal and other matters.
