English Language Teaching Producer (ELT)

Job description

BBC Learning English is a department of the BBC World Service devoted to English language teaching. The service provides resources and activities for teachers and students, primarily through its website. It also produces radio programmes which go out on some of the BBC World Service"s language services and partner stations. It has won numerous awards, including three ELTons from the British Council and an English Speaking Union award for innovation in English language teaching.

Role Responsibility

As part of a multimedia English Language Teaching (ELT) team of producers, and reporting to the Team Leader, you will originate research, prepare, produce and present English language teaching items, packages, interviews, discussions, complete programmes, and features, for radio, the Internet and other media forms. All programme material must be strongly audience and learner focused, as well as meeting the standards required by the BBC.

The Ideal Candidate

You must have a DELTA or equivalent ELT qualification with recent and relevant experience in an English Language Teaching role, preferably in an international context with extensive experience of using radio, online, or other media for educational purposes. With a great understanding of our differing global audiences and differing levels of English comprehension you will have the ability to write, adapt and edit ELT materials with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to learners from a wide range of backgrounds and levels.

 

It is crucial that you have knowledge of the English language equivalent to that of a native speaker, including complete comprehension in written and spoken forms, and first class communication skills. A good understanding of Shakespeare and experience of producing ELT materials using Shakespeare’s plays would be desirable.
