Job description
BBC North West Tonight produces the most watched regional TV news in the North West. With Breakfast bulletins, through lunch, teatime and late evening news programmes and weekend news, we provide a comprehensive service to the people in the North West. We pride ourselves on innovative ways of working in a digital environment, sharing content across radio and the web and using new technology to gather news for TV, radio and online. It’s a great patch: ever changing, with big news, first class sport and diverse culture.
Role Responsibility
This is primarily a planning role. Good planning and continuity plays an essential part in programme production and we are looking for someone to be at the heart of our planning team. On occasion you will be expected to work on other shifts including producing our bulletins for Breakfast on BBC One, supporting the producers of our lunchtime and 1830 programmes along with some reporting. You will work on other areas of the output as required.
You’ll be planning stories and sequences, and working to our bulletins across the day and week. You’ll need to have strong writing skills and an ambition to film and edit your own material.
The Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for an experienced journalist with a track record of delivering original journalism, a strong editorial judgement and first class writing skills. You’ll possess excellent news judgement and broadcasting skills and be able to originate and develop programme stories. You’ll need to be able to work co-operatively as part of a team and will have an understanding of the BBC’s Producer Guidelines and awareness of legal considerations applying to all types of output. You must be willing to embrace new technology and be able to work flexibly. In addition; you will need to understand our audiences and the diverse make up of our transmission area.
