BBC WM is the biggest of the BBC's Local Radio stations outside of London and competes in one of the toughest radio markets. We have built up a strong reputation for entertaining, breaking stories and winning awards for our original journalism and multi-media coverage. We want Broadcast Journalists who'll bring with them their own ideas that will build on that reputation for stand out news and sport journalism. BBC WM is based in a multi media centre at the Mailbox in Birmingham and is co-sited with regional television and BBC Network teams. BBC WM is the voice of the West Midlands and we want Broadcast Journalists who'll thrive in a busy, multi media newsroom. Role ResponsibilityThis is a great opportunity for an experienced and ambitious Broadcast Journalist to work across our newsroom – reporting, bulletin reading and producing programmes. You’ll have a track record of finding original stories and covering big breaking news, as well as an impressive contacts book and great knowledge of the West Midlands. We need reporters who sound great on air, are good writers and can creatively produce programmes across the day. You'll be expected to work closely with BBC WM's programme teams, so that stories are delivered with maximum impact across the day and across digital platforms. You’ll be based in a multi media news room and you'll be expected to collaborate with your colleagues in television and online on a daily basis. The Ideal CandidateYou’ll be brimming with ideas for stories and treatments and have a track record of original journalism and creative production. You’ll have a god understanding and buy-in of the local radio strategy and a commitment to making fun and engaging radio. You'll need good editorial judgement, news awareness, and experience of radio production techniques. You must have the ability to work within a team, as well as on your own. Ideally you'll know the BBC WM area well. You should have an understanding of the multicultural make up of the West Midlands and an appreciation of the BBC WM audience.
