The UK news desk is the driving forces within Newsgathering, assigning and co-ordinating our reporters, correspondents, producers and camera crews across the UK. Under the overall direction of the Deployment editor and Deputy, the news desk is run by a combination of Newsgathering duty editors and broadcast journalists. The Content Producer will be deployed on digging, gathering and a producing role on breaking stories. The Content Producer will sometimes work on big developing stories. Based in London, but will involve travel on big out of London stories.  The role will focus on producing newsgathering video for mobile, which will then benefit all newsgathering. The Broadcast Journalist will work a variety of shifts depending on news demands.Role Responsibility·To support the News Desk  duty editor in covering the key stories across the UK ·Liaising with correspondents, reporters, and camera crews and operations staff. ·Package producing the on duty News Correspondent on daily stories. ·Thinking about stories which can be developed for mobile. ·Working with the Planning Editor on developing news stories, both in the office and on location.    ·Communicating with staff from across the BBC and with members of the public. ·Arranging facilities with outside agencies and other broadcasters for daily newsgathering ·Planning coverage of news stories ·Collecting video, text and audio material on the road, including conducting interviews. The Ideal Candidate Knowledge and Experience ·A proven passion for news and knowledge of newsgathering in the UK and package production. ·Good geographical, political and social knowledge of the whole of the UK. ·Experience of working in a network newsroom and preferably a network news desk ·An excellent understanding of how the UK is governed, the differences devolution has brought and the workings of institutions such as courts and local authorities. ·A thorough knowledge of all the requirements of the Producers’ Guidelines Skills and Abilities ·Ability to build relationships/rapport with a variety of key people e.g. guests, contributors, camera operators and influence them where necessary. ·Ability to work well under pressure. ·Ability to negotiate/exercise diplomacy with people where necessary ·Highly developed communication skills and excellent telephone manner ·Knowledge of television, radio and online production techniques. ·Excellent IT skills.
