BBC Radio Manchester has just posted its highest audience figures in 3 years, and is intending to do even better. We’re an ambitious station broadcasting to an area of 2.6 million people across Greater Manchester. Based at MediaCityUK it’s a great place to work ; you’ll find yourself at the heart of one of the busiest news and sport patches in the country. You’ll need to have a great voice, be editorially strong, have bags of creativity, top people skills and a GSOH.
Role Responsibility
For this role you’ll be working on one of the biggest double headed Breakfast shows in BBC local radio. You’ll need to be an experienced news bulletin reader, who has authority, but also lots of personality and warmth. You’ll need to be an outstanding journalist with a passion for local broadcasting, and be able to make bulletins creative and engaging. You’ll be part of the creative process on the show, suggesting ideas and refreshing your bulletins with breakfast show material. You’ll continue to read bulletins through until lunchtime. You must have great writing and broadcasting skills. You will have technical aptitude, and fully understand and appreciate social media/online and how you can use and incorporate social media into your output to reflect how our audience needs are changing. You’ll have a good knowledge of our local radio audience and our diverse communities and area.
The Ideal Candidate
You must have a proven track record as an excellent newsreader with top notch editorial judgement as you are writing and producing bulletins in a fast paced environment. You will be an experienced journalist who can keep across stories and develop them, and who knows how to react to breaking news, both in your bulletins and live into programmes. You will be able to use and be fully across social media and understand how alongside BBC online it plays a significant part in our offering to local audiences. As part of the Breakfast team you need to be an excellent team player as well as good at working on your own and you’ll have good planning and organising skills. You will be required to operate broadcast equipment including the Verve, VCS, and Iphone/pads, and you may be required to work on other parts of BBC Radio Manchester output as required.
