BBC Radio Northampton serves one of the UK’s fastest-growing and most diverse counties, from Corby in the north to the picturesque villages of the south. The station is well established and has a reputation for great entertainment programmes as well as high quality local news. We were also the first station to adopt ViLoR (Virtual Local Radio) technology in our studio and production areas. 

Role Responsibility

We are looking for a creative and experienced Broadcast Assistant to join our team. You will provide support for programme teams in the studio on a technical and production basis. You will assist with outputting Breakfast, Midmorning, Lunch and Sport programmes which require quick-thinking, front-of-house interaction with the audience and contributors and a competent understanding of ViLoR, VCS and Phonebox. You’ll need to support the creation of social media posts for those programmes. Quickly turning round audio clips and highlights is a key part of the role

The Ideal Candidate

You will be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm for live radio and have an interest in broadcast technology. You will also have experience in working on outside broadcasts and using digital playout/editing systems.

You will be someone who can work calmly under pressure, and handle several equally important tasks at one time. You will be someone who works well in team of journalists and presenters and able to provide technical advice to colleagues when required.

The job will regularly involve working Thursday-Sunday and therefore the ability to work flexibly across output is essential. You will also be expected to occasionally operate broadcast vehicles.
