Job description

BBC West is a multi-media broadcast centre operated by a team of dedicated multi-skilled journalists and programme makers.   We cover Bristol, Wiltshire, Somerset and Gloucestershire on TV, on local radio and Online. It is home to the flagship early evening regional programme ‘BBC Points West’ and also produces numerous bulletins, from early morning to late evening across the entire week. It produces a regional segment for lunchtime Sunday political programme, “Sunday Politics” and is also the local home of the weekly series of “Inside Out West”. We have a multi-skilled team of over thirty people working across the output, seven days a week.
This is a very exciting time as the region has recently been through BBC SPARK (an in house team that brings resources, skills, ideas and methodologies to help think differently about our methods and change them for the better) and we are revolutionising the way we work together to deliver stories to our audiences.

Role Responsibility

We are looking for a broadcast assistant to join the team in our busy newsroom. The successful applicant will be required to work in the studio as a floor manager, and in a live TV gallery doing timings or operating the Autocue. They will also work in the newsroom managing the logistics of staff and equipment across the region.

The Ideal Candidate

You should be highly motivated, enthusiastic about regional news in the West. You will have experience of working in a live broadcasting environment, and have demonstrable administration skills and knowledge of newsroom systems. You will be at ease with digital platforms and across the latest trends in social media. You will be a self-starter who is proactive and a good communicator. You will also have the ability to meet deadlines, prioritise a busy workload, operate under pressure and work effectively as part of a broadcast team. Experience of logistics will be an advantage.
Flexible working, often at short notice across a range of shift patterns, is key for this role. Training will be given to the successful candidate if required.

Interviews are expected to be held on October 21st and we would like the successful candidate to start as soon as possible.
