Job description

BBC Drama, London under Hilary Salmon makes some of the most original, diverse and acclaimed television drama series ranging from Luther in its 4th season, Our Girl in its 2nd season and Silent Witness now in its 20th season as well as all 3 seasons of BBC iPlayer Drama Shorts. Hilary’s department is also currently in post-production with new dramas by Peter Moffat, Guy Hibbert and Marnie Dickens

Role Responsibility

The Assistant Script Editor will report to the Head of Development and will work with the Head of Development and the Script Editors to provide editorial and research support. 

You will identify and carry out research, assess and where appropriate contribute to the development of solicited script material, and provide support to the development team across projects on the slate both in early and advanced development. In production, you will manage all negative checks, manage and log all responses from BBC Editorial Policy department, co-ordinate with the script editor all notes for the writer, do all script amendments, work with the script editor and executive producer to write all relevant synopses for publicity, marketing, sales and online.

 

Drama production can involve long and unpredictable work patterns and pressure to meet tight schedules and therefore you must have a flexible approach to working. 

The Ideal Candidate

You will demonstrate sound editorial judgement and an ability to interpret editorial intentions.  You will have knowledge of the key roles in a Production team.  More generally you will have experience of establishing and maintaining office and administration systems, using final draft scriptwriting software and providing administrative support.

In addition, you will demonstrate knowledge of conventional and specialised sources of information and research techniques. You will also have a demonstrable interest in television drama, practical experience of television production and understanding of script writing process.  Beyond this you will have experience of working in drama development including script reading and writing script reports.
