BBC Radio Drama’s Units in Birmingham and London are part of the wider Radio Drama UK community but come under the leadership of Head of Arts, Drama and Documentaries Radio. Based in Birmingham,  The Archers  is the flagship Drama strand on Radio 4 and Britain’s longest running daily soap having begun transmission in January 1951.

Role Responsibility

Supporting the strand’s new editorial and production structure, we are looking to recruit an Assistant Producer to work within the strand’s dedicated team.  Reporting to the Editor, the role provides specialist support to the whole team.

The Ideal Candidate

The Assistant Producer’s varying responsibilities focus on the online and technical side of The Archers production.  In this role we’re looking for someone who will become the main point of contact for the programme’s online and digital activities.  The role works closely with R4’s Digital team on the strategy for and implementation of The Archers’ website and social media presence, including the programme’s visual representation. The Assistant Producer also supervises The Archers’ archive system and helps with archive research queries.  The ideal candidate will have strong research skills;   good technical skills to edit recorded material for Press or other BBC use and to record material for topical inserts or last minute changes; and experience of writing metadata.  You’ll be enthusiastic, flexible with a good knowledge of radio production.  You’ll have good verbal and written communications skills, and will combine self-sufficiency with a strong team sense.
