Job description
UNIX Infrastructure team supports infrastructure running UNIX, its hardware, orchestration/automation tools, manages performance, controls access and provides monitoring. We provide general support to other Run the Bank teams and consultancy about UNIX products. The estate consists of approximately 25,000 UNIX Servers located around the globe.
Currently we are growing the team and looking for UNIX Engineer.
Overall purpose of role:
As a UNIX Engineer we expect you to possess a healthy mixture of both technical and leadership skills. Successful candidate would have an expert knowledge of UNIX environments, facilitating technologies and be capable to drive change. Responsibilities will include process optimization, research of new technology and improvement of existing one. You may be asked to dive in to a project or to work on incidents. However primary responsibility will be to life cycle existing product set, help to shape UNIX strategy and implement it. Often this will mean you'll have to code.

· Contribute towards setting strategic direction of UNIX Infrastructure. Conceptual technical thinking.
· Development and drive of improvements in current toolsets
· Provide expertise technical advice to customers and UNIX team members
· Bring new technology to the bank
· Stakeholder management and leadership.
· The roles requires a high level of experience and technical leadership when engaging with key stakeholders such as business aligned technology teams (RTB/BTB)
· Ability to translate between technical and business teams
· Empathy and capability to control/manage escalations in highly pressurized environment
· Ability to adapt quickly and to demonstrate a flexible approach
· Decision making and problem solving.
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· Organisation and prioritisation skills
Risk and Control:

Technical skills we expect candidate to have
· Deep understanding of UNIX and facilitating technologies
· Knowledge of clustering technologies (Veritas Cluster suite/PowerHA/ Pacemaker/RedHat HA)
· Understanding of storage technologies (SAN, Volume manager)
· Knowledge of monitoring systems and concepts of large scale monitoring (Nagios, UIM, Nimbus)
· Awareness of virtualization, cloud and containerization technologies (OpenStack, OpenShift, Docker, AWS)
· Understanding and knowledge of Infrastructure-as-a-Code concepts and tools (Chef/cfengine/Ansible/Puppet etc.)
· Ability to code (Ruby/ Python/Perl)
