The Release Train Engineer (RTE) facilitates the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) agile release processes and program execution, escalates impediments, manages risk and drives program-level continuous improvement. RTE's are responsible for facilitating program level work within the SAFe framework.
The RTE ensures mission execution, leads and facilitates software teams through development and delivery, guides the transition to and implementation of scaled agile, facilitates the synchronisation with the Product Owner and Scrum of Scrum meetings, and is an agile facilitator and coach at the Program level. The RTE helps to guide and manage the product build and release and the teams through the delivery of software and services, embracing and casting the agile mind-set across client spaces.
What you'll need?
Key Accountabilities:
· Aggregates team objectives into Program Increment Objectives, creates and publishes roadmap for visibility and transparency
· Assists with economic decision-making with estimations and prioritizations at Program level
· Assists with program execution and PI feature completion tracking (see Metrics)
· Constantly inspects the agile process, discovers and addresses the major concerns
· Drives program-level continuous improvement via retrospectives and Inspect and Adapt workshops
· Encourages team and program level Quality Practices and Communities of Practice around agile Scrum, and Agile program management
· Escalates impediments
· Establishes the annual calendars for Sprints, Program Increments, and all other agile artifacts
· Facilitates Rolling Wave and Pre- and Post- Program Increment Planning
· Facilitates Program Increment planning events
· Facilitates Program Increment planning readiness; Vision, backlogs and facilities
· Facilitates Product Owner Sync and Scrum of Scrums
· Manages risk and dependencies
· Maintains proper communication with all the technical and non-technical teams involved
· Participates in enterprise program management improvement and standardization activities
· Provides input on resourcing to address critical bottlenecks
· Reports status and recommendations to Release Management
· Responsible for program planning, demo, inspection and adaption, synchronization, release planning and improvement planning
Essential Knowledge and Expertise:
· Excellent communicator (verbal and written)
· Expert in agile project management
· Expert in agile practices at scale
· Strong understanding of DevOps and Continuous Delivery
· Self-organising, disciplined and analytical
· Highly collaborative with very strong Stewardship approach
