The Strategic Transactions Group (STG) forms part of Barclays Group Tax. STG's objective is to utilize its execution and transaction-management capabilities in support of appropriate tax and associated capital management for the Barclays Group.
Product Control is a global function with c1000 staff based in London, New York, South Africa, India and across the Asia Pacific region. Product Control is primarily responsible for understanding, substantiating and controlling the daily trading balance sheet and income statement for Barclays Investment Bank.
The Markets Portfolio Finance team, within product control, provides a full front to back finance service for the STG business; including product control, financial reporting & control and tax liaison in relation to structured transactions involving multiple legal entities and financial products. The team currently comprises of professional employees in London, Luxembourg, New York and the Chennai.
Overall Purpose of Role
Markets Portfolio Finance is responsible for the preparation of statutory, regulatory, tax and management reports for the activity undertaken by STG. We ensure integrity of financial information by implementing and monitoring appropriate reporting controls. This is achieved by striving to execute in a consistent and timely manner, and by implementing best practices globally.
Key Accountabilities
· Preparation of monthly management reporting, including P&L and balance sheet reconciliations and Substantiation processes for specific structured transactions
· New deal analysis with consideration of trade booking and appropriateness of booking methodologies or approximate booking.
· Front to Back reconciliations
· Implementation and monitoring of key internal product and financial controls to ensure a robust controls environment;
· Accounting for a variety of financial instruments involved in structured transactions on solus entity and consolidated bases;
· Site accountant for a portfolio of legal entities responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the accounting records and the validity of bookings to the financial ledgers;
· Liaising with the Tax Structuring team to resolve accounting issues and queries related to structured transactions;
· Preparation and review of entity tax calculations;
· Preparation of statutory financial statements under IFRS and forecast management accounts;
· Periodic Hedge Effectiveness testing as required.
Stakeholder management and leadership
The role will involve building strong relationships and regular communication with a wide group of stakeholders, including Front Office, Risk, IT, Tax, Regulatory Reporting, TCU and IB MO. The role will require the following expected leadership responsibilities and decision making:
· Monitoring of some Key Controls and Reconciliations
· Participating in the projects, planning programmes, implementing strategy and efficiency
· Review and assist manager signoff on sub-ledger and main ledger, balance Sheet preparation and analysis
Risk and Control Objective

Skills and Qualifications
· Minimum of 2:1 degree or equivalent experience
· Numerate based A-levels and degree
· Part or Fully Qualified CIMA/ACA / ACCA preferred
· Good technical understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards and UK GAAP
· Ability to understand accounting entries and apply this knowledge in a practical manner
· Strong Microsoft Excel skills
· Good Microsoft Word Skills
· A strong practical understanding of the importance of rigorous controls environment
· Attention to detail and diligence combined with good analytical problem solving skills
· Ability to multi-task and manage competing tasks
· Ability to pick up concepts quickly and to challenge existing thinking and processes
