Overall purpose of role:

· To contribute to the solutioning/design and carry out the build and maintenance of the Payments Exceptions and Investigations platform (QMS) in line with Barclays technology strategy

· Development will cover mandatory, regulatory, and strategic change in line with the banks technology/operational roadmap.

· Work with the wider development team along with Payments CIO and operations to deliver rapid and error free code in an agile development environment.

Key Accountabilities and Skills required:

· Write well designed, defect free, testable, efficient code leveraging best practices and reuse.

· Work closely with operations to understand their business processes and procedures.

· Participate in sprint planning sessions with the Agile development team to understand and refine specifications and requirements based on technical needs stemming from new operational demand or enhancements to existing services/applications.

· Manage application environment deployment and code maintenance activity.

· Risk and Control: All Barclays colleagues have to ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards

Your Skills and Qualifications will include:

· Experience of developing in Java or another OOP language (Pega CSA certification or above would be a strong advantage)

· Experience of building/enhancing and implementing Business Process Management solutions (experience of developing automated business workflow a strong advantage)

· Documentation skills in order to provide high quality documentation for internal customers and technical support teams

· Ability to multi-task, and work under pressure and to deadlines

· Openness to learning and managing additional technologies as business requirements change

· Understands the requirements of strong governance in a large financial environment, particularly around Change Management, Risk Management, handling major and minor incidents, Disaster Recovery planning / testing and meeting requirements of rigorous Audit mandates

· Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues successfully

· Well-developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and work collaboratively with people to make decisions.

· High level understanding of integrating application components (MQ, ETL, JDBC etc)

Other skills (useful but not essential):

· Would be ideal to have knowledge of the financial sector – specifically Payments Exceptions and Investigations.

· Nice to have knowledge on SWIFT, FED, CHIPS, SEPA, FPS file/msg formats and payments processing flow.

· Knowledge of middleware and backend components (WebSphere, MQ, Oracle DB etc)

· A general knowledge of current IT development trends and Payment industry trends.

· Availability to perform occasional out-of-hours / weekend work

· Experience of working in an agile development environment (Scrum/Kanban)
