About Payments Tower
The primary function for the Payments Technology Tower is to support the Global Payments Acceptance business and in doing so running payment transactions for 30% of the UK high street, adding business value by leveraging technology solutions and payments domain / industry knowledge. The tower also operates across Barclaycard and the wider bank providing payment solutions where the other business units are acting as a merchant or in the operation of authorisations and settlement routing.
Overall purpose of role:
The role is to perform activities related to the design, development, testing, deployment and support and maintenance of new, or existing, Barclays software applications and information systems as per the key accountabilities described below.
Key Accountabilities
· Understand the various phases of the software development lifecycle
· Undertake impact assessment and estimation of change requests against applications / products within domain
· Liaise with stakeholders for any requirement clarification to take that to closure.
· Responsible for design, development & local test and adherence to all coding standards
· Document all work in accordance with agreed standards, and with re-use in mind
Report progress against assigned activities in a timely manner.
Stakeholder management and leadership
· Co-ordinate and communicate with colleagues to encourage ideas and build on the suggestions of others.
· Be supportive within the team, both technically and culturally, to help achieve all targets set within sprint plans
· Identify own development needs and seek opportunities to address these needs through guidance, coaching and formal training
· Collaborate with other component design and build teams, ensuring that end-to-end system design is followed
Enlist others in working towards the organisation goals takes prompt and effective action to rectify problems within the team.
Decision making and problem solving
Raise risks and issues in a timely manner, and complete associate actions in required timeframe.
Analyse and document specific projects' business requirements and strategic resolution initiatives; describe alternative problem-solving approaches and their optimal uses
Create/Review component designs & builds to ensure compatibility with the end-to-end system design
Create/Review test strategies to guarantee the quality of the delivered system, assist in the diagnosis of system problems encountered during testing
Risk and Control Objective
All Barclays colleagues have to ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards
Person Specification
Skills
· Must have experience of working in an IT project environment preferably in card acquiring domain in banking and financial sector.
· Must have Strong analytical skills, proficiency in COBOL, JCL, VSAM. Unit testing and system testing approach
· Hands on knowledge on FileAid in Mainframe.
· Hands on knowledge of version control tool Endeavour
· Hands on knowledge on RDBMS DB2 preferred
· Knowledge of Change, Incident and Problem Management process
