Department Overview
The Litigation, Investigations & Enforcement, EME team provides litigation and investigations coverage across the EME region.
Main Function of the job
· To advise on and manage internal and external investigations and enforcement matters in EME, as well as work on litigation matters as appropriate, with a particular focus on investment banking investigations.
· To help to ensure the delivery of functionally excellent litigation and investigations services.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Colleague
· Contribute to the development of a 'community practice' within the Litigation, Investigations and Enforcement (LIE) team including developing shared expertise, professional standards, and team practices and procedures.
· Contribute to the development and delivery of training with the LIE team and wider legal function.
· Be comfortable to challenge others; be prepared to be challenged.
Company
· Direct, oversee and supervise internal and external Barclays investigations on an individual and portfolio basis.
· Liaise with and report to other members of the Legal and Compliance Functions and business stakeholders, as appropriate, in relation to investigations and litigation case management.
· Where providing these litigation and investigation services:
· manage the provision of external support;
· strictly maintain cost and budgeting discipline in external service purchasing;
· drive performance in the resolution of legal issues; and
· co-ordinate the development of processes, policies, and procedures designed to reduce legal and regulatory risk throughout Barclays.
Conduct
· Take into account reputation of Barclays at all times, through positive interactions and following policy and process.
· Sets an example and supports fair and ethical behaviour in all colleagues.
Customer/Client
· Develop effective relationships with other members of LIE team and the Legal and Compliance Function generally.
· Manage stakeholder expectations in relation to case management, including providing proactive updates and reporting of developments.
· Help to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders within Barclays.
Citizenship
Support citizenship agenda across Legal function to contribute positively to the communities we operate in.
Risk and Control Objective
Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Standards

· Excellent communicator, written and oral – clear and calm, gravitas. Strong presentation skills.

· Ability to conduct legal / regulatory negotiations.

Knowledge and Expertise
Essential:
· English Qualified lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister, Legal Executive or equivalent), with at least 7 plus years' experience of:
· Managing internal and external investigations for financial institutions;
· Strong investment banking knowledge and experience;
· General banking law;
· Handling regulatory and enforcement agency requests
Preferred:
· Understanding of the requirements of legal risk management in a financial institution.
· 2:1 honours (or better) degree
· Previous experience working in-house within the financial services industry, or for a significant regional, national or City of London law firm.
· Litigation experience.
