About Trade Operations

Trade Operations UK is responsible for the Client Servicing and the front and back end processing of Collections, Letters of Credit (LC), Trade Loans and Bonds Guarantees & Indemnities (BGI). Front-end processing is operated from Birmingham, UK with the back office work done by Barclays Shared Services (BSS) in Chennai, India.

About Documentary Trade

The Documentary Trade teams are responsible for the end to end processing of Import and Export collections documents, managing the receipt and dispatch of shipping documentation and handling referrals from internal departments and client queries.

Overall Purpose of Role
· Responsibility for undertaking a pre scan check on documents presented under import /export collection and letter of credit transactions received from Correspondent Banks, direct from customers or domestic branches. .
· Responsible for scanning, indexing and matching prints to files.
· The jobholder works in a team environment, dedicated to processing high volumes of work with speed and accuracy, within strict deadlines.
Key Accountabilities
· Process Import and/or Export Collections and Letters of Credit work accurately and efficiently to meet agreed service levels and volumes and maintain customer service. This will involve:
· Perform pre-scan checks on inward mail received under Collections & Letters of Credit and where necessary;
· Verifying that certain criteria have been met.
· Endorsing bills of exchange/bills of lading.
· Issuing release notes.
· Verification of correspondent bank and branch signatures.
· Prepare scan cover sheets.
· Performing necessary anti-money laundering checks including responsibility for identifying fraudulent documents.
· Monitoring TradeFlow Work Groups to identify work received from the Processing Hub (Barclays Shared Services – BSS) .
· Contacting customers and other areas of the bank to resolve issues identified by yourself or Barclays Shared Services.
· Updating TradeFlow / TradeManager with instructions in a concise manner
· Manage disposal of prints produced by BSS. This involves ensuring any attachments are made, signatures are added (where appropriate) and the relevant Work Item is updated.
· Liaising with coverage to ensure correct customer limits are in place before processing applications.
· Scanning documents to trade systems
· Completing post activity using DHL and Royal Mail
· Adhere to procedures, process flows and Centre guidelines to maintain optimal performance.
· To proactively identify, resolve and when necessary escalate discrepancies and issues.

Technical Skills / Competencies:
· Attention to detail.
· Good communication skills, written and oral.
· Good organisational ability.
· PC skills including Microsoft Office.
· Effective listening/active listening.
· Ability to apply themselves to problem solving and analysing situations.
· Proven knowledge in the use of a PC.
· Proven experience of communicating by telephone, face to face and written.
Knowledge & Expertise
· Procedures for security and confidentiality
· Previous experience of working in a Trade environment is desirable, to enable the jobholder to understand the workings of the different products.
· Previous experience of working in a customer-servicing environment is desirable, to enable the jobholder to understand the types of issues and problems which occur.
