About the Department


Trade Processing Engine IT is a global department within Markets Post Trade Transaction Cycle which develops and enhances systems that cover all aspects of Trade Lifecycle from initial capture to maturity/expiry. Teams cover various asset classes and this role is for the systems related to Equity Derivatives.

About the System

Atlas Trade is a large scale derivatives system for Barclays being developed to facilitate trade capture, lifecycle management, and ‘Straight Through Processing' (STP) of all Barclays' equity derivatives products globally. The system is being built to achieve a "Single Platform" vision for the business while keeping the architecture flexible and extensible for an ever changing and evolving derivatives landscape.
The Atlas Trade team has innovatively leveraged the capabilities of MDA (Model Driven Architecture), Java, .NET, Oracle DB, Coherence and Angular to build a platform which can meet all the business requirements. As the bank is keen to onboard even more products and business flows onto the Atlas Trade platform, we are looking for the most talented and creative individuals who can help in transitioning this to the next level by leveraging containers (Openshift/Docker), cloud based infrastructure and No-SQL DB (e.g. MongoDB) among others.
The team has the vision to achieve continuous deployments and fully automated testing as the core of a truly agile process and are looking for like minded individuals keen to solve complex business problems by leveraging the best of technologies.

What will you be doing?

• Become a member of the Agile team responsible for building and enhancing Atlas Trade system - the next generation of Barclays' equity derivatives trade capture and lifecycle management platform
• Be responsible for the development and timely delivery of new features and functionalities as well as enhancements to the core systems
• Participate on the architecture and design decisions
• Occasionally interact with the end users to understand issues/feedback and incorporate the same in developing solutions
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the processes and the system

• Linux (on servers) and Windows (mainly on desktops)

What we're looking for:

We are seeking a candidate who:

• Has relevant experience in Java software development
• Is strong in core Java skills including but not limited to Generics, Collections, Multithreading, I/O, Streams and JDBC
• Is proficient in reading, writing and debugging multithreaded Java code
• Has knowledge of relational databases (ideally Oracle DB)
• Is strong in problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Is able to understand complex problems and translate them into solution respecting OOP fundamentals
• Has understanding of enterprise design patterns
• Has experienced with technologies supporting development, continuous integration, automated testing and deployment
• Has proficiency in technologies supporting Java development and deployment – Spring, Maven, Xml, etc.
• Is team player familiar with Agile development concepts

Skills that will help you in the role:

• Experience with Python development
• Knowledge of web front-end development using HTML5 and Angular 6+ or similar
• Familiarity with Linux shell scripting
• Knowledge of Oracle Coherence and related relevant experience
• Experience with C# .NET
• Familiarity with messaging platforms such as MQ and Solace
