Main Duties and Responsibilities

Managing Barclays' legal risk is the fundamental responsibility of the Legal function. Our mission is 'to protect and create value for Barclays by managing legal risks and advancing opportunities', i.e. to protect and build the bank. Our role includes:

· Provision of business coverage and support, including commercial contracts, employment, intellectual property and transactional / deal support

· Oversight of regulatory relations

· Management of litigation portfolio

· Management of competition law investigations

· Regulatory strategy and policy.

Overall purpose of role:

o To provide first class legal support to the Board of Barclays Shared Services Limited.

o To identify and manage legal risk across the business, support investigations, cross examinations, reports and work closely with India and UK investigations team.

o To liaise and manage external advisers/counsels/investigators as instructed by the business.

o Work and negotiate on commercial agreements /arrangements with third parties, intragroup entities

o To provide legal support to HR team, Employee Relations and in regulatory issues.

o To develop and manage framework for the management of the business's legal risk profile which adheres to the Barclays governance framework.

Key Accountabilities and Skills required:

This section should include:

o Key specific accountabilities.

o Draft, vet and negotiate agreements, contract and other relevant legal documents for engagement with third party vendors and intragroup entities.

o Provide active legal and investigation support to HR/ ER / Relevant Business Units.

o To provide litigation advise and support to the business on all legal issues

o Provide the business with support on regulatory issues ensuring that the business operates with an appropriate compliance and control environment.

o Ensure that the Legal Principal Risks are embedded in the business implement checks and controls which mitigate these risks

o Stakeholder management and leadership.

o To manage and build relationships with external legal advisers. Act as a liaison between the business and external legal advisers in accordance with Barclays governance framework.

o To work closely with the internal stakeholders to ensure that all aspects of legal risk and policies across the business are identified, covered and controlled in relation to the business's activities.

o To proactively advise the management on, and help to manage, important changes in law and regulation s impacting the business.

o Decision making and problem solving.

o To identify and meet management information requirements for the measurement of legal risk exposure, performance and productivity.

o Ensure adherence to the Legal Engagement model and support to the business

o Ensure that best practice is adopted and applied across the business and that all activities comply with applicable laws, rules and regulations.

o To provide creative solutions

o Risk and Control: All Barclays colleagues have to ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards

Your Skills and Qualifications will include

§ Bachelor of Laws (LLb.)

§ Company Secretary (Preferred but not mandatory)

§ Relevant post Qualification experience with knowledge of court practice skills and investigations, commercial contracts, real estate, employment relations and company law.

§ Preferable (but not mandatory) to have experience working for a MNC or BPO.
