Ship Structures Engineer – QEC WTA
Would you like to play a key role in the delivery of the Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) aircraft carrier? We currently have a vacancy for a Ship Structures Engineer – QEC Warship Technical Authority (WTA) at our site in Portsmouth, Hampshire.
As a Ship Structures Engineer, you will be providing governance and oversight of engineering decisions that affect QEC Ship Structures. You will be undertaking a defined range of engineering activities, as well as supplying advice and support to the QEC Engineering team and other functions. You will be responsible for ensuring defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and service requirements.

Your main responsibilities as a Ship Structures Engineer – QEC WTA will involve:
Managing the efficient, timely and safe implementation of design change, including update and upgrade activities
Contributing to the maintenance of configuration control of QEC
Providing authoritative evidence to demonstrate that design intent has been achieved and ensure that the design change has been holistically integrated
Ensuring that the QEC Safety Case has integrity, is comprehensive, coherent and consistent
Collecting and collating evidence for Naval Authority Certification submissions
Identifying and proposing opportunities for the improvement of platform design
Providing feedback on data quality and associated risk
Advising the QEC WTA Lead Engineer on matters of ship structures including:
Ship structures
Shock
Constructive engineering
Dry-docking
Equipment shipping routes and methods
Your skills and qualifications as a Ship Structures Engineer – QEC WTA:
Essential:
Experienced naval architect, having demonstrable expertise in a number of the following areas – ship structures, shock, dry docking, constructive engineering, equipment shipping routes and methods
Degree qualified or equivalent qualification or experience in a relevant engineering/naval architecture discipline
Experience of working within the UK defence industry
Desirable:
Experience of commonly used ship structural analysis software and/ or Finite Element Analysis (FEA), preferably ANSYS
Demonstrable experience within warship design and support
Chartered Engineer status
