Job Title: Tornado Non Destructive Inspection Technician

Salary: £43,221.61

Location: Dhahran

JOB PURPOSE

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force aircraft and train RSAF personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons. For such maintenance training, this role is responsible for the training and mentoring activities in respect to the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) employees and is responsible for technical Non Destructive Inspections (NDI) of material, parts, components and pressurised systems, interpreting and evaluating indications of test methods applied, maintaining equipment and supervising non-destructive inspection activities.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

The successful incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not be limited to:

1. PERFORMING TECHNICAL NON DESTRUCTIVE INSPECTION FUNCTIONS

- Selecting and performing technical non-destructive inspections by examination of material parts, components and pressurised system of missile, aircraft and support equipment.

- Operating and utilising ultraviolet, liquid penetrant, eddy current, magnetic particle, radiographic, optical and ultrasonic equipment and techniques to observe, measure and detect discontinuities, flaws and other defects such as inclusions, voids, blow holes, seams and laps not discernible by orthodox visual methods. Evaluating physical state of materials such as sorting metal according to alloy. Temper, conductivity and other metallurgical factors, surface or subsurface discontinuities, flaws or defects in substances; relative depth of flaws and integrity of pressurized systems; and to measure thickness of materials.

- Performing bonding tests.

- Operating and performing operator maintenance on non-destructive tests and oil analysis equipment.

2. INTERPRETS AND EVALUATES INDICATION OF TEST METHOD

- Interpreting and evaluating tests by analysis of indications such as ultrasonic wave travelling through or being absorbed by metallic or non-metallic material to detect discontinuities and relative depth of discontinuities. Variations in electrical characteristics and /or energy losses in detecting and measuring depths of discontinuities or flaws; and visual results of seepage of liquid penetrant.

- Measuring fire and heat damage to nonferrous metals.

- Identifying by type and quantity of wear metals through debris analysis as part of the EFDC programme.

3. INSPECTS AND EVALUATES NON DESTRUCTIVE INSPECTION ACTIVITIES

- Planning workloads, schedules work assignments and establish work control standards.

- Providing for and controls use of equipment, materials and space.

- Coordinating work schedules with other activities.

- Orienting newly assigned personnel and assigns specific functions and responsibilities.

- Supervising performance of non-destructive inspection tasks and conducts on-the-job training in non-destructive inspection tasks and test methods.

- Arranging for training facilities, equipment and instructors; and records training accomplished and individual progress.

RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION

Essential

- Must be qualified to NDT Level 2 in the following disciplines Radiographic, Ultrasonic, Eddy current, Magnetic Particle and Penetrant Inspection to ASNT, EN4179 or PCN certification.

- Knowledge of technical orders, regulations, manuals and procedures governing identification of discontinuities and flaws in metallic and non-metallic parts; operation and maintenance of non-destructive inspection test and oil analysis equipment.

- Radiological safety and operating procedures; safety codes and practices; ferrous and nonferrous metal characteristics and metal processing principles is mandatory.

- Experience in performing functions in a non-destructive inspection shop.

- Must have undertaken the recognized formal training courses in all NDT disciplines

Desirable

- An education with courses in mathematics or physics is desirable.

- Completion of an advanced aircraft maintenance course is desirable.
