Technical Author

Would you like to join our growing team supporting a range of projects for civil and military aircraft? We currently have opportunities for Technical Authors to join the team to work with the Technical Publications Department who are responsible for the preparation of technical publications on Civil and Military Aircraft projects.

In this role you will be involved in producing and contributing to the technical documents required for customers. Ideally you'll have an aeronautical or avionics background with an eye for detail and keen to progress your career.

BAE Systems Regional Aircraft provides managed solutions for aircraft design, engineering and fleet support to a global customer base. The Engineering portfolio is diverse and includes projects ranging from support to new aircraft development programmes, major special role aircraft development programmes and modification/upgrade to a range of fixed wing aircraft types. Following recent contract successes across the Engineering product range, we are looking to enhance key capabilities to support existing contracts and further growth.

Your main responsibilities as a Technical Author will involve:

The production of descriptive, operation and procedural Data Modules and page blocks to current industry standards from engineering reports, drawings and general aircraft related documentation for all customer technical publications

Assisting with the technical aspects of Service Bulletins, Aircraft Flight Manuals and other related documents

The production of draft illustrations and illustration production packages from drawings, photographs etc. to aid in the final preparation of artwork

The discussion and agreement of maintenance procedures with the engineering, maintenance and production departments

Ownership of documentation through to in-house or certification authority approval

The provision of responses to customer/internal departments' documentation queries

Your skills and qualifications as a Technical Author :

Essential:

Educated to HNC/HND level within an Engineering or Aeronautical background or equivalent working experience

An aptitude and willingness to become a competent technical author writing aircraft technical documentation to Current Industry Standards e.g. (ATA 100/iSpec 2200 and ASD S1000D specifications)

Desirable:

Aeronautical electrical/avionic apprenticeship/formal training would be an advantage

Good sound knowledge of engineering drawing systems and general aircraft related documentation would be advantageous.

Salary: £20,000+
