Technical Author

Would you like to work on the Type 45 project supplying the documentation to support the most cutting edge and latest Navy ship? We currently have a vacancy for a Technical Author at our site in Filton, Bristol.

As a Technical Author, you will be part of the Type 45 COM, within the ILS sub-team. The Type 45 COM is responsible for the in-service support for all Type 45 ships.

The Technical Documentation Team are part of Integrated Logistic Support (ILS), and they are responsible for creating and managing the T45 Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) for all systems and equipment on board the T45 ships, including combat systems, weapons, platform systems).

Your main responsibilities as a Technical Author will involve:

Authoring S1000D standard Standard Generalized Mark-up Language (SGML) Data Modules

Preparing documents in Portable Document Module (PDF) format

Undertaking reviews of OEM documentation deliveries to ensure they comply with T45 ‘Business Rules'

Investigating and responding to technical documentation queries received from the Royal Navy via the ILS Helpdesk

Producing T45 IETMs which hold all of the T45 Tech Docs content

Liaising with customers and suppliers for engineering matters

Your skills and qualifications:

Knowledge and experience of producing S1000D Standard Technical Documentation in a Common Source Database (CSDB) environment

Knowledge and experience of working with Electronic Technical Documentation (ETD)

Previous Marine Engineering experience, ideally gained in a Royal Navy environment, or equivalent engineering experience gained in the aerospace or land vehicle sector (ideally in a defence support environment)

DEF Stan 00-60 experience (defence standards) – desirable

Software experience (Epic Editor 5.4, Acquired CSDB, trilogiView) – desirable
