Technical Author

Would you like to join a growing team responsible for creating and updating technical documentation and publications for naval systems on board a variety of military ships. BAE Systems is recruiting Technical Authors to join the team in Portsmouth, Hampshire.

As a Technical Author, you will be responsible for creating technical publications in paper and electronic formats, as well as updating and amending existing documents to reflect any design changes and alterations.

This is an excellent opportunity which would suit either an existing Technical Author, or an ex-Royal Navy maintainer, who can supplement their existing knowledge of ship systems with the authorship training that BAE Systems can offer.

Your main responsibilities as a Technical Author will involve:

Creating new technical documentation for naval systems such as Books of Reference (BRs), and Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs)

Amending existing technical documentation, ensuring all information is up to date and accurate

Working closely with design engineers and equipment manufacturers to gather information including design drawings, in order to fully understand the impact changes have on technical documentation

Interpreting of engineering data, and where appropriate, querying data to ensure correct and accurate interpretation

Working with the Illustrators to produce supporting technical graphics

Carrying out quality assurance of technical publications such as peer reviewing

Your skills and qualifications as a Technical Author must include:

Either a proven background in technical authoring, or naval engineering experience (such as Ex-Royal Navy maintainer)

Computer literate, and confident user of Microsoft Word and Excel

Your skills and qualifications as a Technical Author will ideally include:

Previous experience or exposure to Books of Reference (BRs), or Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs)

Experience with Abode FrameMaker

We can offer a level of training to cover some areas of inexperience
