Systems Support Engineer

Would you like to work with latest and emerging technologies in a secure area? We currently have a vacancy for a Systems Support Engineer to be based in Abbey Wood, Bristol. You may also need to occasionally work at our site in Christchurch.

The need for effective secure information sharing between UK forces and coalition partners is a key enabler to operational effectiveness on current MoD operations. The Information Services Brokering Environment (IBSE) product enables a richer information exchange between UK users on National C2 infrastructure and the wider coalition community. As a Systems Support Engineer, you will be working on the client site to provide support to these communication systems.

This role will provide you with the chance to support cutting-edge technologies and hardware while working at the forefront of customer interaction.

Your main responsibilities as a Systems Support Engineer will involve:

Carrying out customer support, system administration and maintenance, security monitoring/management and patch deployment for MoD secure communication systems

Developing and improving existing support and system maintenance activities at Abbey Wood with visibility of and involvement in current support arrangements

Undertaking system diagnostics and corrective maintenance, ensuring issues arising from systems failures are addressed accordingly

Being part of the Helpdesk team, responding to incidents and problems reported by the users

Maintaining system availability targets, ensuring issues are resolved swiftly

Providing support to regular systems updates

Your skills and qualifications as a Systems Support Engineer:

Essential:

· Understanding and experience of secure systems
· Experience of systems installation and updates, working to processes
· An appreciation and experience of networking hardware e.g. firewalls and servers
· A good understanding of defence security processes and procedures
· Experience of systems support/administration with the defence/military environment

Desirable:

· Knowledge/understanding of ITIL Service Management Framework
· Experience of the full suite of MS Office programs

What we're looking for in you:

You will be practical and logical, capable of detecting and resolving issues on your own. You will be willing to work independently on a customer site, with some flexibility around working hours. Your communication skills will enable you to manage stakeholders effectively.

Salary: £29,000+
