Steel Worker
Would you like to join an interesting and exciting business area in a leading defence organisation? We currently have a number of positions available for Steel Workers at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
Steel work is an integral part of the submarine build process. Your role will involve analysing and working from engineering drawings and workmanship standards. You will be carrying out full outfitting to completion of the submarine for the Astute and Successor classes.
This is a varied role which sits within a demanding and fast-paced working environment, enabling you to get involved in some of the world's most complex engineering projects.
Your main responsibilities as a Steel Worker will involve:
Working safely at all times, taking yourself and others into consideration before starting a job, complying with Health and Safety and other relevant regulations and guidelines
Following the relevant instructions, drawings and any other specifications
Using the appropriate methods and techniques to fabricate, assemble, install Steelwork, Woodwork and composite structures and provide support for associated activities
Checking the completed activity to ensure that all operations have been completed to meet the required specification
Using associated tools and equipment safely and effectively
Your skills and qualifications as a Steel Worker will ideally include:
· Recognised apprenticeship in Ship Building or Steel Work
· Mock up or Wood experience
· Knowledge of dry survey and marking off is desirable
· Ability to read drawings and be conversant with the use of certain pneumatic tools (grinders, rotary files)
· Ability to fabricate to drawings and the required build tolerances
What we're looking for in you:
You will be self-motivated and organised with good time keeping ability. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will enable you to work well as part of a team. You must be able to work in confined spaces at heights.
You must be willing to work shifts as part of this role.
