Software Engineer
Would you like a role which enables you to make a difference to people on the frontline? We currently have a vacancy for a Software Engineer at our site in Yeovil.
As a Software Engineer, you will be developing product solutions in Java/JavaScript on internationally used software. You will be dealing with the maintenance systems that are used on a whole range of platforms, which include those that operate in air, sea and on land. In some cases, you will be liaising directly with the customer to develop specific solutions.
This role will provide you with the chance to work across the full software development lifecycle, on software used by 1000s of people across the world, including on the frontline.
Your main responsibilities as a Software Engineer will involve:
Providing realistic estimates of time needed for development activities and accurately reporting on progress to the Technical Authority/Engineering Manager
Developing technical designs and developing software solutions using Java/JavaScript/HTML etc. in line with these designs
Supporting system test activities – highlighting bugs, setting up environments for testing, reporting on outputs of test activity and carrying out re-works
Being involved in technology research projects to ensure products are compatible for mobile and tablet devices on Android or IOS platforms
Providing ad hoc support to the 2nd and 3rd line service desk teams for the products
Being involved in looking at how 3D modelling software can enhance user interface whilst using the products, using Unity Gaming Engine
Your skills and qualifications as a Software Engineer:
Essential:
Experience of developing software in Java/Javascript
Experience of using web development tools - HTML, DHTML, CSS, XSL, XSLT
Degree/MSc or equivalent in Software
Desirable:
Knowledge of C++
Experience of developing product for IOS or Android mobile platforms – Objective and Swift
Experience of REST API and HTTP servlets
An understanding of technical publications standards, such as S1000D, or experience in developing solutions that process XML/SGML
