Ship Warden Technician

At 280 meters long, 70 meters wide and 56 meters tall, the new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth will be the largest ship ever to be commissioned by the Royal Navy, and a major symbol of Global Britain on the World stage. We currently have vacancies for Ship Warden Technicians to work on this platform and others at our site in Portsmouth.
As a Ship Warden Technician, you will be responding to the requirements of the Ship Warden Supervisor. You will give due regard at all times to the provision of a safe working environment and ensuring the health and safety of others on board the vessel. The role will be broad and varied, with the opportunity to liaise with and influence a variety of stakeholders at all levels.
Your main responsibilities as a Ship Warden Technician will involve:
Developing and maintaining a broad knowledge of electro/mechanical systems associated with Royal Navy (RN) ships so as to ensure safety of personnel and equipment
Carrying out as directed, electro/ mechanical low level maintenance and equipment keep alive as required by contract specification
Supporting the implementation of Health and Safety controls in ships for which BAE has care and custody. This will include but not limited to:
Permits to work for lock off and tag out, hot work, working at height and confined spaces
Maintaining the tag out database and producing reports as required
Inboard connection/disconnection of dockside services required to support ship needs, including main switchboard operation
Maintaining movement of weights and underwater valves and fittings logs whilst ship is docked
Undertaking shift working in accordance with roster prepared by your supervisor
Controlling the following whilst on shift:
Safe operation of ship systems and equipment
Safety and security of marine and weapon engineering compartments
Whole ship fire safety and security
Shiphaz/Radhaz
Control of watertight integrity
Control compartment keys
Your skills and qualifications as a Ship Warden Technician:
Essential:
Experience within the Royal Navy or relevant marine engineering environment
High voltage competent person
Working knowledge of electrical safety and testing
Desirable:
Confined Space Authorised Person
Experience of Type 45 platform

You will possess excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. You must also be confident and tactful when dealing with conflicting requests from different stakeholders.
Salary: £27,871 plus overtime
Location: Portsmouth Naval Base, Hampshire
