Principal Engineer - UMMS
Would you like to be responsible for managing the Unit Maintenance Management System (UMMS), within the maintenance team working on the Type 45 Destroyers? BAE Systems in looking for a Principal Engineer to join the team in the Portsmouth Naval Base.
In this role, you will be driving optimisation of the UMMS database from all end users and stakeholders, and ensuring buy-in from engineering teams. You will also be responsible for the day-to-day management and upkeep of the system, ensuring all maintenance activities are documented, and that all users are trained appropriately.
This is a crucial role on the Type 45 programme, ensuring that they Royal Navy has the equipment availability necessary for the UK's defence capability.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer – UMMS will include:
Managing the Unit Maintenance Management System (UMMS) database and driving its optimisation programme
Administering the database, and reviewing data to resolve any inconsistent data
Supplying advice from the UMMS to support stakeholders and other functions as needed
Advising Engineers on correct way to input information into the database, to ensure quality is constant
Carrying out basic maintenance or fixes where possible to resolve technical issues
Interacting with technical support for deeper issues with UMMS

Background in maintenance engineering across any discipline
Working knowledge of UMMS

Experience of surface ships, submarines, or similar platforms
