Principal Systems Engineer
Would you like to play a key role in the design and development of submarine combat systems? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Systems Engineer at our site in Frimley.
As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will be working in the Above Water Surveillance (AWS) team, who are responsible for the design and delivery of the AWS system for the submarine Combat System for all submarine programmes. The AWS system consists of systems such as Visual Systems, Combat System Masts, Radar, Radar Electronic Support Measures (RESM) and other smaller systems, all contributing to the Submarine's AWS capability.
Reporting directly to the AWS delegated Technical Authority (dTA) you will be responsible for activities across the AWS portfolio with a particular focus on new design systems.
This role will provide you with the chance to work with cutting edge technology across all stages of the engineering lifecycle.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Systems Engineer will involve:
Gathering, managing and agreeing requirements both with the customer directly, with internal stakeholders and with system suppliers
Managing change within the system, coordinating with Whole Boat teams and suppliers
Managing interfaces and derived requirements with other systems,
Taking ownership of AWS system level documentation and producing Above Water Surveillance (AWS) level plans (such as requirements management plans)
Working closely with each AWS sub-system Lead to plan and undertake design and programme activities including design reviews and reporting
Managing the AWS Engineering Bill of Materials (BOM)
Working with the AWS Project Management team to plan and coordinate AWS level activities
Deputising for the AWS Technical Authority where required
Your skills and qualifications should include:
Systems Engineering or related discipline background with experience of the full engineering life cycle (including requirements specification, verification, validation, and acceptance)
Engineering experience involving complex systems
Sound understanding of Engineering design principles and consideration of Functional and Non-Functional aspects.
Proficient in IT systems including MS Office
Ability to interact with and negotiate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders such as suppliers, customers and other teams
Your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Degree or equivalent in Electronic/Electrical/Systems or closely related discipline, and Chartered Engineer or working towards
Model Based Systems Engineering knowledge (MBSE)
Prior experience with Sparx EA, DOORS, Teamcenter or similar
Knowledge of project management principles and processes
Understanding of functional and intrinsic safety
