Principal Engineer – Systems Architect

An opportunity has arisen for a Principal Engineer – Systems Architect to join BAE Systems at our site in Weymouth. The successful Principal Engineer – Systems Architect will be designing the IT, networking, and operating systems infrastructure on which combat systems for all UK submarines are built.

As Principal Engineer – Systems Architect your main responsibilities will involve:

Architectural design and requirement definition through to test and acceptance of:

- A virtualised processing environment

- High resilience Ethernet networks

- Display solutions

- Health monitoring and built in test

Acting as an Infrastructure Architect for implementation and delivery of the Infrastructure onto specific boat types

Working with the Infrastructure Design Authority, Product Leader, and directly with the customer, to define the Infrastructure development route map

Owning the Infrastructure design and development programme for specified infrastructure implementations

Defining and agreeing the Infrastructure Statements of Technical Requirements to enable subcontract procurement; liaising with procurement and technology providers (Software/design houses)

Defining required technology deliverables for Infrastructure subcontracts

Defining future technology road maps

Providing support to the Certificate of Design activities

Bidding of new work (proposals/estimations)

As Principal Engineer – Systems Architect your skills and qualifications must include:

Background in networks, processing systems, operating systems and/or virtualisation

Appreciation of IT design

As Principal Engineer – Systems Architect your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

Experience with CoTS equipment such as Dell, HP and VMware

Military domain experience

Experience managing projects from bid stage through to delivery and acceptance

Requirements derivation

We are looking for an autonomous, motivated person. Taking responsibilities for your own work, you will be confident to work without immediate supervision, and capable of indirectly supervising others around you to ensure the swift and accurate delivery of high quality work.

Salary: Up to £45k

Location: Frimley or Weymouth
