Principal Systems Engineer

Would you like to be a part of the Under Water Systems (UWS) team, managing a complex portfolio of projects across our most state-of-the-art submarine platforms? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Systems Engineer at our site in Frimley.

As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will be working as part of the UWS team to manage requirement sets across a range of platforms and programmes, driving the alignment of these requirements against a common system design.

This role will provide you with an opportunity to work with the most advance technologies on current and future classes of submarines.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Systems Engineer will involve:

Liaising with the System Design Leads to ensure delivery of a clear, concise & consistent set of requirements

Supporting qualification and acceptance activities undertaken by the supplier

Ensuring requirements are traceable to system architectures and product design and where appropriate endorsed by the customer

Reviewing supplier produced derived requirements and ensuring that these are captured if necessary

Ensuring all requirements are captured and mastered in DOORS

Promoting understanding across the organisation of how to structure good functional and non-functional requirements

Your skills and qualifications:


Essential:

Good understanding of requirements management and systems engineering principles.

System Design experience

Strong knowledge of engineering complex systems

Desirable:


Knowledge of DOORS

Enterprise Architect or equivalent

Experience of shipbuilder or naval dockyard working practices

Maritime Submarines – Combat Systems

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century. It currently employs approximately 7,700 people, with 500 of these working for Combat Systems across our sites in Barrow-in-Furness, Ash Vale, Broad Oak, Filton, Frimley and Weymouth.

We are currently responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of the Royal Navy's latest and most capable generation of attack submarines, as well as their intelligent Combat Systems trusted to detect threats in the naval environment.

Our Combat Systems team designs, builds, integrates and supports all of the submarine combat systems in the UK fleet – essentially, the eyes and ears of each platform. We provide through-life support for combat systems, sensors and radars, and deliver complex programmes and technologies by applying expert programme management and world-class engineering.
