Principal Engineer – Nuclear Interfaces
Would you like to play a key role in the build and development of nuclear submarines? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer – Nuclear Interfaces at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
As a Principal Engineer – Nuclear Interfaces, you will be acting as an interface between BAE Systems and our industrial partners, representing engineering to make sure the Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) design intent is met.
This role will provide you with the chance to expand upon your theoretical knowledge on a long-running project of national importance. You will be fully supported in your professional development, with the chance for excellent career progression opportunities in the future.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer – Nuclear Interfaces will involve:
Being a nuclear Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person (SQEP) resource for Astute engineering
Representing engineering as a member of the Reactor Test Group, Procedural Authorisation Group, Nuclear Risk Review Board and various other organisations
Carrying out inspections of Nuclear Build Facilities
Reviewing nuclear workmanship standards
Auditing nuclear Engineering Change Request (ECR) embodiment
Getting involved with and providing input to through-life safety cases
Authorising and evaluation test documentation
Acting as an interface and liaising with the MOD, industrial partners and boat staff
Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer – Nuclear Interfaces:
Essential:
Mechanical engineering bias
Experience within a nuclear role/ background
Nuclear Warship Support Course (NWSC) certified/ CAT B nuclear watch keeper or equivalent
HNC in mechanical engineering related discipline
Desirable:
Appreciation or experience of test and commissioning
Experience liaising with third party organisations

You must have a proactive approach to your work, with the ability to use initiative and work with minimal supervision. Stakeholder engagement will be key within this role and you must be comfortable communicating effectively with individuals at all levels. You must also have a strong problem-solving ability to overcome any project issues.
