Principal Engineer – Configuration Controller

Would you like to work within Common Infrastructure, the computing environment for Combat systems on submarines? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer – Configuration Controller at our site in Ash Vale.

As a Principal Engineer- Configuration Engineer, you will be part of a team responsible for creating a shared computing environment to host all IT for submarines, moving away from bespoke pieces of kit which has previously been designed for submarines, this technology will enable upgrades to the systems on submarines, by releasing software updates to be installed.

This role will provide you with an opportunity to work on a project which offers real longevity and career development.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer – Configuration Controller will involve:


Managing soft and hard configuration documentation across the team in accordance with ISO9001

Ensuring the configuration management process is used correctly within the team

Coordinating and agreeing the identification of Configuration Items across the teams

Generation of configuration management plans

Conducting impact assessments and raising change requests

Representing the team as part of the business wide change and configuration working group

Agreeing and documenting any project deviations to process

Supporting LRQA Audits and internal QA audits to identify improvement activities

Providing Configuration Management best practise across the engineering and project management teams

Configuration management process administration and continuous improvement

Communicating changes to the CM process across the team and promotes and ensures compliance with the changes

Identifying specific training needs within the team and ensures these are communicated to the relevant authority

Your skills and qualifications must include:

Previous experience of working in a hardware/software environment

Experience of Microsoft applications

The ability to demonstrate a good working knowledge of Change and Configuration Management principles and processes

Ideally your skills and qualifications will also include:

Experience of Serena Dimensions, JIRA, Doors, Teamcenter

Previous experience of working in the Defence industry

Maritime Submarines – Combat Systems
