Principal Engineer – Nuclear Safety Assurance
Would you like work on one of the UK's most complex and high value engineering projects? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer in our Nuclear Safety Assurance team at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
This is an excellent chance for you to gain an in depth knowledge of the Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) 2, which is integrated into the Astute class submarines, and the PWR3, currently being developed for the Successor class submarines.
As a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for the safety of the naval nuclear reactor, and ensuring that it meets the required regulations and specifications from the customer.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer – Nuclear Safety Assurance will involve:
Reviewing Naval Reactor Plant (NRP) design and safety documentation to support safety case applications and design changes
Author safety case maturity statements to provide assurance that the plant is built as requested by the customer
Demonstrating that all risks to operating crew and the public have been reduced to a level that is as low as reasonably possible (ALARP)
Provision of advice to company on nuclear safety impact of build and commissioning issues
Provide responses to the customer's (MoD) technical concerns raised against issued documentation
Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer – Nuclear Safety Assurance must include :
Degree (or equivalent level) qualification in a relevant science/ engineering subject
Experience in engineering field such as design, safety, or assurance
Experience of carrying out investigations, writing reports, and checking documentation
Experience of working in high hazard environments
Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer – Nuclear Safety Assurance will ideally include :
Safety case experience
People management experience
