Freight and Passenger Driver

We currently have a vacancy for a Freight and Passenger Driver at our site in Portsmouth Naval Base.

As a Freight and Passenger Driver, you will be working in the team responsible for the transport of all goods, equipment, and people around the base and to other UK sites. This can include driving coaches, cars, minibuses of ship staff from the ship to barracks, or other UK defence sites.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work within a very varied driving role, for instance, you could be transporting the Commodore of the naval base and also transporting some hazardous goods and driving HGVs.

Your main responsibilities as a Freight and Passenger Driver will involve:

Transporting passengers and freight around the naval base, other sites in the South of England, and occasionally to other UK-wide locations

Engaging with a wide variety of different stakeholders, which can include VIPs from industry, the military and government, as well as Royal Navy staff and other personnel

Transporting a range of freight, which will range from ship's equipment and stores, hazardous material and other vital items

Representing BAE Systems professionally by appropriately engaging with the personnel you are transporting, and acting as the face of BAE Systems for visitors to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction

Ensuring a high level of health and safety is maintained by carrying out basic vehicle checks, reporting potential defects, and following national transport regulations for both passenger and freight transport

Maintaining appropriate driving licenses and supporting qualifications where applicable

Your skills and qualifications:

DCPC (Driver Certificate of Professional Competence) is essential

Experience driving in commercial capacity and driving a range of customers

Possession of digital tachograph card

Full clean driving license in following passenger and freight categories: C, C+E, D, D+E
