Mechanical Fitter

Would you like to be involved with installing, repairing, and refitting a range of mechanical systems and equipment on board Royal Navy surface ships? We currently have a vacancy for a Mechanical Fitter at our site in the Portsmouth Naval Base.

As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be working on systems such as engines, pumps, and rudders, performing critical work to ensure the ships are kept in-service and available to the Navy.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on a variety of ships including Type 45 Destroyers, Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier (QEC) and Hunt Class vessels.

Your main responsibilities as a Mechanical Fitter will involve:

Installing and maintaining various types of mechanical equipment such as: main and aux engines (gas and diesel), rudders, shaftlines and associated equipment, stabilisers, pumps and valves.

Ensuring safe systems of work are carried out

Reading/Interpreting mechanical drawings

Fault diagnosing and defect rectification.

Carrying out detailed inspections and be fully conversant in the use of all measuring equipment

Your skills and qualifications:

Qualified in mechanical engineering

Knowledge and experience of mechanical engineering including fitting, maintenance, installation, overhaul and repair

Marine engineering experience would be desirable

Ship repair or ship-build experience would be advantageous

Experience working on diesel engines, particularly repair and overhaul would be desirable

Previous experience from the Royal Navy would be desirable
