Mechanical Design Engineer
Would you like to play a key role in the design and development of the M777 Howitzer? We currently have a vacancy for a Mechanical Design Engineer at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be working within the weapons design team on projects throughout all stages of the product lifecycle from design and development, through to manufacture and implementation.

Your main responsibilities as a Mechanical Design Engineer will involve:
Deriving functional system requirements from customer requirements
Generating and developing concepts of weapons sub systems including:
Structures
Ammunition feed systems
Elevation / traverse systems
Man Machine Interfaces
Developing designs in line with requirements and all quality and technical standards
Performing technical investigations, including evaluating technical options and preparing reports with suggested recommendations
Conducting weight optimisation of systems / structures via re-design and / or use of advanced materials, such as titanium and aluminium alloys, composites and additive layer manufacturing techniques
Integrating sub-systems into an evolving product design, including laboratory tests, shop-floor development testing and off site trials
Your skills and qualifications as a Mechanical Design Engineer :
Essential:
Degree or equivalent qualification or level of experience in a Mechanical Engineering discipline
Demonstrable experience of mechanical design within a heavy/complex engineering environment
Working knowledge of engineering calculations/analysis techniques with the ability to read engineering diagrams/schematics
Desirable:
Mechanical design experience within weapons/military platforms
