Join as a Joiner at our site in Portsmouth and you'll find we offer a wealth of career options. From Type 45 Destroyers, Type 23 Frigates as well as international projects, historic ships and the future Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carrier, the projects you'll be involved in will set new standards, and form the backbone of the Royal Navy for decades to come.

As a Joiner you will be able to carry out the various techniques used in the ship repair and support industry. You will have a good understanding of safe systems of work including joinery work, confined spaces, working at height and Royal Navy specific safety operations.

This role offers great career opportunities to progress in the workshop or into a management or team lead role.

Your main responsibilities as a Joiner:

Reading / interpreting joinery drawings / sketches

Carrying out survey work prior to manufacture if required

Manufacturing cabinets / wardrobes / bespoke furniture to a high standard and to time and budget

Installing furniture into various compartments as required

Carrying out temporary replacement door / hatch fitting to ships to comply with H&S

Fitting visualisation boards to offices as required

Using various joinery hand tools / machine tools

Packing / protecting various types of Joinery work prior to delivery

Removing and re-installing basic mechanical and constructive items as required to progress own task

Supporting workload of other facilities within the Naval Base

Your skills and qualifications as a Joiner:


Recognised Time served Apprenticeship in Joinery

Joinery (marine) knowledge

Technical Problem solving

In depth understanding of joinery drawings and guidance information

You will be a team player, self-motivated and apply excellent problem solving skills. You will be flexible approaching tasks and demonstrate an excellent understanding of the customers' expectations.
