System Data Engineer

Would you like to play a key support role in the manufacturing phase of the new Type 26 Frigate? We currently have a vacancy for a System Data Engineer at our sites in Filton or Portsmouth.

As a System Data Engineer you will assist in the progressive development, implementation and delivery of the T26 Support, Information, Knowledge Management (IKM) Solution, which will make the best use of the detailed engineering design and operational data and knowledge to provide accurate, up to date Support Data to the new Fleet of T26 Frigates. This is an opportunity to build and shape the T26 Support Solution and other future classes, including knowledge transfer, software applications and IT infrastructure.

This role will provide you the chance to work on a high profile, cutting edge development and delivery project with a great opportunity to interact and influence a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Main responsibilities as a System Data Engineer will involve:

Assisting the Type 26 Support IKM Lead to liaise with Naval Ships, Maritime Services and the Ministry of Defence to capture requirements, develop, improve and deliver the IKM solution required for the T26 Frigate Support Solution

Supporting the development of the Support Solution using System Engineering Methodologies

Assisting in the development and integration of the Support Solution data with each of the Type 26 Support Team

Assisting in developing and delivering data mapping and data interfaces

Investigating and making recommendations on process improvements identified during Support Solution development.

Skills and qualifications:

Essential

Degree in an Engineering or Science based subject or equivalent experience

System engineering knowledge

Experience in defining Interface Requirements and Interface Specifications

The ability to mitigate issues in the development of engineering solutions

Strong analytical and organizational skills with a methodical and analytical approach to problem-solving

Experience on data migration projects

Experience of Oracle/PL/SQL

Development background – preferably in database or data related areas Microsoft ACCESS development 2010 or earlier


Desirable

Experience in one or more of the following Systems – Eagle LSAR, Trilogi , Windchill, Oracle Apex app development.

Understanding XML source datasets

Practical experience in converting databases

Understanding of IT architectures

Knowledge of the Support environment for military equipment

Knowledge of standards such as Def Stan 00-60 (600), S1000d, 2000M etc.
