Communication Engineer

Would you like to play a key role supporting the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA)? We currently have a vacancy for a Communication Engineer at our site in Portsmouth Naval Base.

As a Communication Engineer, you will be carrying out a range of installation, testing and support activities on communications and network equipment across the UK for the MCA . You will be responsible for coordinating and planning off-site activities including technical, logistical and administrative activities.

This role will involve regular travel to remote sites around the UK.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work in a reactive role and the day-to-day activities and challenges will be varied. You will be fully supported in your career development, with the chance for career progression within the wider Maritime Services business area.

Your main responsibilities as a Communication Engineer will involve:

Installing communications and network equipment

Troubleshooting and testing of equipment

Decommissioning of redundant sites

Responding to technical queries from the customer and providing solutions

Site record management

Developing and implementing strong customer relations

Acting on behalf of MCA with other third parties

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential

HND or equivalent qualification or experience in a telecommunications discipline

Knowledge of VHF/ MF/ HF

Telecommunication/Network installation experience

Must be able and happy to travel UK wide on a regular basis

Must be at minimum basic level of experience with Microsoft Office

Desirable:

17th edition wiring regulation

First Aid qualified

ITIL practitioner

Experience arranging, organising travel and security access

Knowledge of Maritime Communications (Civil)
