Commissioning Engineers
Would you like to be responsible for test and commissioning activities on advanced submarine platforms? We currently have a number of vacancies for Commissioning Engineers at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
As a Commissioning Engineer, you will be initially working within the Test and Commissioning function, focusing on the day-to-day testing of ship electrical or mechanical systems for in-service and in-build submarines. In the future, you will be moving across to work within the Strategic Weapon Test Organisation on another advanced submarine platform. either In the Test and Commissioning Organisation/Dockside Test Organisation , you will be dealing with cutting edge systems such as: communications, radar, weapon systems and torpedoes before moving to the SWTO .
This role will provide you with the opportunity to be involved in the test and commissioning of a nuclear submarine from the build stage, right through to the submarine being fully operational at sea. This is a varied role where you will be working on a number of different systems, including new equipment, on some of the most complex engineering projects in the country.
Your main responsibilities as a Commissioning Engineer will involve:
Working through the test specifications and forms to ensure compliance with each aspect of the test procedure to ensure it is fit for purpose
Being responsible for the commissioning, trials, operation and setting to work of systems/ equipment
Providing a support service to Boat Builds, MoD and commercial customers as appropriate either on-site or off-site
Research and compilation of appropriate documentation around ships systems
Representing the company on contractor's sea trials and other outworking requirements including guarantee periods as applicable
Ensuring safe and efficient working practices at all times, including taking indirect responsibility for less senior member of the team around you
Control of sub-contractors, which could involve input into risk assessments, method statements, security arrangements and monitoring of work
Keeping full and accurate records of work activities carried out by using company systems
Your skills and qualifications as a Commissioning Engineer :
Essential:
HNC or equivalent qualification or experience in a relevant engineering field (such as mechanical or electrical engineering)
Engineering experience in one or more of the following areas: testing, commissioning, setting to work, maintenance, Merchant Navy or Royal Navy background
Awareness of, or experience with, authorised documentation or test standards
Desirable:
Knowledge of marine platforms/ submarines/ weapon systems

You must be an effective team-player, possessing excellent communication skills to work with a range of stakeholders and challenge engineering issues in a constructive manner. You must also have the ability to work unsupervised, as well as the drive to complete tasks to specified timescales.
