Chemist
Would you like to play a key role in supporting the build and Test and Commissioning functions We currently have a vacancy for a Chemist at our site in Barrow.
As a Chemist, you will be Based in the Chemistry Lab supporting the build and Test and Commissioning functions. Performing Chemical Analysis on a wide variety of fluids, gases and materials. Safety and Assurance for the Test and Commissioning function .
This role will provide you with working on the most advanced engineering challenge currently in build in the UK, will give you the opportunity to work on a large variety of different tasks – lab work is involved but there is much more to the role than just this.
Your main responsibilities as a Chemist will involve:
To carry out routine work with no supervision and complex tasks under minimal supervision (collect water samples, PH/conductivity tests, ion chromatography etc.) (ESM work, testing of materials etc.)
Provide timely analytical service in support of submarine Test and Commissioning.
Provision and recommendation of chemical doses for treatment of fluid systems, to mitigate corrosion.
Carry out sampling and analysis of water samples on primary and secondary systems on-board submarines as appropriate.
Carry out sampling around the site in support of environmental commitments.
Use of Company Computer Systems Software as appropriate.
There will be a need for radioactive re-assurance counting.
Observe Health & Safety legislation applicable to working with and handling chemicals and radioactive materials.
To be able to access, have a clear understanding of and apply the Quality and HS&E Management System documentation e.g. Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards, Risk Assessments etc. applicable to your particular work scope and to obey all HS&E rules and control measures
Your skills and qualifications as a Chemist:
Candidates must be degree qualified in Chemistry, Physical Sciences, Natural Sciences, Environmental Science, Forensic Science or have HND/HNC with significant relevant experience.
Experience of a laboratory environment and good practical chemistry skills.
Understanding of COSHH and its application.
Nuclear experience would be beneficial, but awareness training will be provided
Brown Stain Assessor course would be beneficial, but training will be provided.
Experience working in an industrial environment.
