Assistant Project Accountant

We currently have a vacancy for an Assistant Project Accountant at our site in Samlesbury, Lancashire.

As an Assistant Project Accountant, you will be working as part of a team responsible for aiding managerial planning and commercial decision making by providing financial information and accounts administration.

This role provides you with an excellent opportunity to get involved with multiple projects, and work cross functionally across the business.

As an Assistant Project Accountant, your main responsibilities will include:

Ensuring that the projects operates an appropriate and effective set of financial controls

Maintaining overall integrity of the accounts through their direct linkage to the output of the under-pinning financial systems

Ensuring that projects are compliant with BAE Systems' operating principles through proactive membership of the Integrated Project Team

Supporting decision making and challenging the performance of contracts by analysing key issues and trends, and risks and opportunities

Undertaking business and financial modelling, and evaluating and interpreting the outcomes of alternative scenarios

Providing financial advice and support to the management team to challenge the estimates and underlying metrics and assumptions

Undertaking financial reporting and forecasting for the projects, and providing input to related reporting

Ensuring that all financial reporting complies with relevant accounting standards, as well as legal and regulatory requirements

Developing and maintaining high quality working capital control and reporting techniques, including a cash awareness culture in projects

Keeping actively involved with Commercial, Procurement and Central Finance to ensure all foreign exchange risks are identified and effectively managed

As an Assistant Project Accountant your skills and qualifications must include :

Previous experience working in a finance role

Good working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint

Ability to communicate with and influence a variety of stakeholders

An ability to generate individual transactions such as sales invoices, journals, or cost transfers through the accounting ledgers

Understanding of and ability to perform reconciliations between financial data and project accounting reports

Working knowledge of management accounting processes

As an Assistant Project Accountant your skills and qualifications will ideally include :

Qualified to or actively working towards a relevant industry qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or AAT)

A working knowledge and application of management accounting processes and it would be an advantage to have knowledge of BAE Systems accounting processes

What we're looking for in you:

You should be able to manage your own time and multiple priorities and be responsible for meeting deadlines. You will be required to communicate and articulate financial information to non-financial managers and be able to present information. You will be able to develop and communicate information from non-standard templates.

Salary: £29,728+ depending on experience
