Ready for real life challenges and want to earn while you learn?

If so, our Aircraft Maintenance and Support Apprenticeship may be the opportunity you've been looking for.

You'll be joining the Aircraft Maintenance and Support function within Military Air & Information. The function is responsible for the delivery of trained personnel into a number of UK and overseas contracts, supporting some of the world's most advanced military fast jets.

It's a two-year apprenticeship that will train you to work on Mechanical Systems, Avionic Systems, or in Continuing Airworthiness.

As an Aircraft Maintenance and Support Apprentice what can you expect?

A typical apprenticeship for this opportunity comprises of spending a year at the Aircraft Maintenance Academy at Humberside Airport where you will develop your English, Maths and Information Technology skills whilst gaining knowledge of the maintenance of advanced military aircraft. The training will lead to the award of a technical diploma.

Your time at the academy will be split between classroom learning, workshop training and on-Aircraft modules where you will carry out simulated maintenance tasks on a real life aircraft. Accommodation will be available during your first year within walking distance of the Academy. Your second year will take you to one of our on-base locations working towards an NVQ Level 3 in your specified trade. The trades that you could be working towards are:

Mechanical

· The Mechanical stream provides the opportunity for personnel to be employed working on aircraft mechanical systems either at the aircraft or in component maintenance facilities.

· Typical roles include the loading of operational or maintenance software, aircraft systems functional checks using built in or diagnostic test equipment, running of installed engines and mechanical component inspection, rectification and testing.

Avionics

· The Avionics stream provides the opportunity for personnel to be employed working on aircraft avionic systems either at the aircraft or in component maintenance facilities.

· Typical roles include the loading of operational or maintenance software, aircraft systems functional checks using built in or diagnostic test equipment, avionic component inspection, rectification and testing.

Continuing Airworthiness

· Working within any one of our Continuing Airworthiness Teams you will have a key role to play ensuring our supported fleets are fully compliant with their Maintenance Programs, Planning the Maintenance, providing fully Engineered Work packages, managing the technical configuration, answering technical queries and actively managing their operational reliability to ensure our supported fleets meet the highest levels of availability and safety.

At the end of the apprenticeship, you'll have had a good mix of learning experiences to ensure you develop the skills that will support you in the future. We encourage and support you to realise your potential. You'll have the opportunity to learn from colleagues who are experts in their field, and gain insights that can only come from real world experience. Following successful completion of your apprenticeship you may be offered a role either Overseas (most likely Saudi Arabia) or in the UK, depending on workload at the time.

You will be training for a permanent role in the Maintenance Function. As a mechanical or avionics apprentice, your permanent role may be overseas in Saudi Arabia or other countries, or possibly in the UK at RAF bases such as RAF Coningsby.

If you are accepted onto the Continuing Airworthiness route, you will be training for a permanent role initially at RAF Valley, RAF Coningsby and BAE Systems Samlesbury site. As your career develops you may also have the opportunity to apply for permanent roles overseas in Saudi Arabia or other countries.
