Location: Beeston

The Solution Architect produces end-to-end solution designs, putting together technologies from multiple IT areas including desktop technologies; Android and iOS mobile devices; Windows and Linux server technologies; Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL database technologies; storage solutions; virtualisation, network components; infrastructure tooling and ITIL-based processes packaged to deliver bespoke applications.

He or she also ensures technical quality and assurance by participating in the Architect peer review processes.

Key responsibilities:

· Develops solution architectures containing logical models of the components and interfaces involved. Takes full technical responsibility for all aspects of solution specification and design.
· Maintains knowledge of the technical specialism at a high level by, for example, reading relevant literature, attending conferences and seminars, meeting and maintaining contact with others involved in the technical specialism and through taking an active part in appropriate learned, professional and trade bodies.
· Maintains an awareness of current developments in the technical specialism within employing organisation, own industry and outside. Keeps up to date on best practice.
· Produces detailed component specifications from solution architectures, taking into consideration the intended uses of the architectures as a whole.
· Develops product short-lists and evaluation criteria and uses them in product selection.
· Translates component specifications into detailed designs for implementation using selected products.
· Produces documentation for solution architectures. Makes sensible use of both text and graphics.
· Maintains a good knowledge of current practice and awareness of current developments within own area(s) of expertise. Demonstrates awareness of areas outside own specialism, as appropriate.

Required knowledge and skills:

· Educated to degree level or holds a professional qualification
· Achieved proficiency at Level 4 in any Development and Maintenance Function with experience of software systems development and implementation
· Analytical ability and attention to detail
· Good inter-personal skills
· Effective and persuasive in both written and oral communication
· Comprehensive knowledge of the software product development and maintenance lifecycles, the technologies and methodologies involved, current developments, the most commonly available products, and the technical and business environments in which the products and services are used
· Sound, broad knowledge of ICT and an excellent understanding of the wider ICT ecosystem and the impact on other business functions
· Development of products and services around a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), using microservices, APIs, enterprise service bus / enterprise service gateway, etc. in a modern cloud-based business solution
· Methods and techniques for structured reviews, including reviews of technical diagrams, test plans, business cases and any other key deliverables
· The analytical comparison of ICT products and services against specified criteria to determine the best solution to the business need
