Job description

The Big Data and Security (BDS) practice within Atos has been formed out of the takeover of Bull Information Systems at the end of 2014, which had already firmly established a pedigree in the fields of High Performance Computing, Big Data and proprietary solutions in Security. As part of the takeover Atos sees a significant opportunity in Big Data and consequently is now investing and growing the BDS practice in the UK by hiring Presales Engineers, and Senior Solution Architects in HPC and Big Data within the HPC& Big Data Solutions Group. There are also a number of sales roles being recruited in parallel.
The main driver for this role is to ensure significant growth in the BDS Big Data and Analytics pipeline and therefore enable BDS to address a greater volume of Big Data deals. It is vital that the successful candidate is a self-starter. He/she will already have a number of years’ experience in configuring solutions in the fields Big Data or HPC, and can work with the sales and finance team in obtaining the best price/performance solution. There will also be a requirement to configure our ‘Bullion’ large memory systems for virtualization and SAP Hana solutions (previous experience of VMware or SAP Hana is not essential but would be of benefit).
 
Big Data presales engineer in both hardware and software domains. Will have a number of years experience designing traditional HPC and/or Big Data (Hadoop – Cloudera, MapR, Apache) solutions, and be conversant with the components of either middleware stacks.
 
Desirable experience in configuring realtime analytics solutions (eg Tibco Fast Data, IBM InfoSphere, Apache Storm), SAP Hana solutions, large VMware grids (with 1000’s of Virtual Machines and the VMware ecosystem that goes with managing that), understanding of large shared memory systems
 
Will design a large array of servers and compute nodes from the ground up: optimise network configuration, disk configuration, CPU and memory specification against performance and client budget.
 
Configure shared memory ‘Bullion’ systems for VMware and SAP Hana solutions
 
Willing to take on greater technical ownership and grow their HPC/Big Data repertoire
 
Respond to tenders sometimes to tight deadlines. Own the technical response and coordinate members within other teams in achieving answers. Work with Project Management and HPC/Big Data Support in the delivery of winning bids
 
Will work on solutions from circa £50k to £2m
 
A network within the HPC/Big Data ecosystem including private sector customers, partners and Government

Desired profile

Essential / Minimum Criteria
HPC/Big Data presales engineer with proven experience in delivering deals to the private and public sector
Solid understanding of one or both of the following technologies:
Hadoop (Cloudera, MapR, HortonWorks, Apache)
HPC: CPU architecture, infiniband, shared parallel filesystems (Lustre, GPFS, Panasas), PBSpro, SLURM, Platform LSF, MPI
Must be a proven self-starter and be willing to look outside the standard ‘catalogue’ for solutions on occasion
Security clearance to SC/DV level (or willing to undergo to DV)
Prepared to travel nationally to customer and Atos sites
Desirable Criteria
Designing realtime analytics solutions with Tibco Fast Data, IBM InfoSphere
Presales design of SAP Hana, VMware and large shared memory solutions. Graph Analytics
IBM mainframe presales experience
Previous experience writing applications and code within the context of HPC, Hadoop, realtime analytics
Will have previously managed a large Big Data/HPC Task Farm/Grid
