Network engineer. This role fulfills service requests for the state of Texas network, with a focus on scheduled firewall rule changes, NAT and route configuration, and load balancer configuration.  Familiarity with Cisco firewalls and load balancers is required. Experience with Citrix NetScaler load balancers is a plus. Requires participation in on-call rotation and break-fix incident management activities. This is a customer-facing role, requiring excellent communication skills.

 

Provides Level 3/Level 4 Network engineering and support in a primarily Cisco environment.  Uses strong troubleshooting skills to addresses incident tickets, and root cause analysis. Executes network changes following standard processes. Creates and updates documentation. Participates in 7x24 on-call rotation.   Ability to train and mentor peers.  Strong network design skills.   Focuses on and completes assigned project work including customer driven projects, maintenance and patching, and hardware/software upgrades. 

This position will frequently interact with Managers, customers, and functional peer groups. Must participate in cross functional support teams. Must have a demonstrated ability to handle multiple high visibility tasks and communicate in English effectively through voice and email.  Often must lead a cooperative effort among members of a project team.

This position will work on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends. This position also follows established processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. This position must act as an advisor to subordinates to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems.

Responsibilities:

• Function as a Senior Network Engineer and be the point of contact with the client for this department.

• Participate in the research, design, planning, and development of new advanced network technologies, network components, and radio frequency and/or wireless transmission.

• Creates and provides quarterly Capacity Plan Data Report.

• Creates and updates network documentation.

• Performs weekly and quarterly network analysis reports from established network flow data.

• Identifies network problems and oversees resolution of problem.

• Assist in the development and evaluation of network performance criteria and measurement methods.

• Actively participate in the installation, maintenance, and monitoring of the organization’s local area network and wide area network systems following standard ITIL defined processes.

• Uses strong troubleshooting skills to addresses incident tickets, and root cause analysis.

• Participates in 7x24 on-call rotation.

• Will train and mentor peers.

• Any other duties as assigned.

 

Successful candidates will possess:

 

• Strong written and verbal communications skills.
• Strong network design skills.
• Expert level understanding of VRF, TCP/IP, Routing protocols, Load balancing concepts

• Expert in client WAN connectivity via MPLS, Business-to-business VPN, etc.
• Advanced network administration and troubleshooting skills.
• In depth knowledge and experience in VTP and Spanning tree and other switching technologies
• Hands on experience on Cisco Nexus 7K, 5K switches & Cisco routers
• Excellent knowledge and experience of Cisco ASA Firewalls using multiple context.
• Excellent knowledge and experience on BGP & OSPF
• Excellent knowledge and experience on F5 and Citrix NetScaler Load balancers
• Working knowledge of WAN Acceleration
• Ability to work delivery on multiple concurrent projects and tasks with conflicting priorities
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
